Healthy Eating
Gleadless is a proud holder of the 'Food For Life' Bronze Award. We are currently working towards the Silver award.
The school’s catering service, Taylor Shaw, ensures a balanced diet throughout the week and the school encourages the uptake of school meals through regular tasting sessions for children and families.

Pupils at Gleadless understand the link between diet, activity and health. Through our DT and Science curriculum, children learn about the impact of food on their health and the importance of a healthy diet. They get the opportunity to explore food and to cook a range of dishes across their time at Gleadless.
Gleadless is a ‘no sweets’ school and through working with families in recent years, we have been able to eradicate unhealthy snacks at playtimes, offering free fruit to children in EYFS and KS1 to support this initiative. Healthy packed lunch workshops with families have helped children and parents to better understand what makes a healthy lunch.
In 2025/26, we will enhance our offer further by establishing a 'growing area' as part of our outdoor provision. This area will be used by children to grow their own fruits, vegetables, herbs and other plants.
